Get Back To Work: A timeline of recovery after breast reduction

-After the incisions are closed they will be covered in gauze. You will likely be given a surgical bra to wear during your recovery which is specially designed to offer great support, without rubbing and causing irritation. Most doctors will require you to continue wearing this bra day AND NIGHT for at least the first 30 days.
- You should not shower for at least 72 hrs after cosmetic surgery. You can try sponge bathing, and washing your hair in the sin or with a hand shower during this time
- You should return to the doctor to let him remove bandages and drainage tubes 2-4 days after surgery. Stitches will usually be removed at a second appointment in 7-10 days.
- You can generally return to light duty a work after a couple of weeks, but should not do so without a doctor’s release. Heavy lifting should be completely avoided for a minimum of 30 days.
- Discuss retuning to your exercise routine with your cosmetic surgeons. Generally start with simple stretches, and swimming, as these are low impact. When you do return to a full exercise routine, make sure you have a high grade sports bra that will minimize breast movement.
- Sex should be put on hold for a least a week after surgery. The physical activity can cause the wood to swell, and sexual arousal may cause serious damage to the nipple.
